[It's... a bit disappointing that Yuya gets away from him that fast, but Yuto would never complain about something like that. He pushes himself up into a sitting position and looks at Yuya.]

You didn't.

[Surprisingly enough he was very comfortable in that position, so Yuto had no reason to move. But, honestly, even if Yuto wasn't comfortable he wouldn't have moved either. There's no way he'd risk waking Yuya up.

Eventually Yuto also stands up from the bed, then gathers his things. He picks up his deckcase, his duel disk then puts his cape on his shoulders.]

We should grab something to eat first, then we're leaving. There's an area I need to check today.

[The he looks at Yuya.] And I want you to come with me. [If that wasn't clear enough already.]

[It's definitely nothing against Yuto, but Yuya feels a pang of regret enough that he nearly reaches over to grab Yuto's hand, but stops himself.

They've already had that one night where they could lower their guard, but who's to say they could allow themselves to let that happen again? It makes him wish that night was longer, but that's selfish.

He watches Yuto, blinking a bit in surprise at the last...request?]

You want me to come with you?

[That's...honestly a bit surprising. Ever since they've arrived in Heartland, it wasn't unusual for them to separate in groups. Yuya's usually out scouting with some of the others, helping out those being attacked by Academia soldiers, but it's not often Yuto requests him to come with. Most of the time, it's because Yuto doesn't want Yuya to be in danger.

But the surprise bleeds away into a smile.]

Alright, I'll go with you. I need to stop by my room first to get my Duel disk. [Because Yuya never leaves his deck anywhere but his Duel disk is another story.]

[Yuto nods in response. Even though this will be more dangerous than what Yuya has been doing so far, Yuto wants him to stay close so that he could protect him if anything happens... no matter if it's Academia soldiers or the darkness inside his counterpart.

There's a moment when he wants to grab Yuya's hand and pull him close to himself, but he turns towards the door instead. The night is over and he has no time to think about his own feelings.

They have more important things to do, they have people who count on them.]

I'll be waiting for you outside the building.

[With that said he opens the door, then hesitates a few seconds before going out of the room.

If only this war would end already.]

[There's no time for themselves; all that's left is to fight for the now.

It's something Yuya understands, so he waits for Yuto to leave the room first. When he's out, he reaches up to clutch his shirt, eyes darkening a bit as he can feel the darkness crawling back at him. Around Yuto, it's quiet as if sensing the counterpart, but with him gone--

No, no time to think about it.

Yuya runs out of the room, quick to go to his own room to grab his Duel disk and attaching it to his wrist. Already, he's missing the times when dueling should be simpler, more entertaining - fun - and it's getting harder to duel with a smile on his face.

But he's made a promise, didn't he? Duels with smiles.

With that resolve, it doesn't take Yuya long to get ready at all, soon meeting Yuto outside of the building in just a span of a few minutes.]

[Yuto greets him with a small nod, then gestures in a direction they'll be going soon.]

We'll be heading that way, to the area near the school. [His school. It always saddens him a lot when he thinks of that ruined building.]

We shouldn't run into too much trouble there, but it's best to be extra careful anyway.

[He glances at Yuya.]

Are you ready to go?

[The school? He glances at Yuto, seeing the expression on his face.

It's enough to reach over to grab his hand, squeezing it reassuringly before he pulls away.

He gives a nod.]

Yup, all ready.

[The moment Yuya grabs his hand, Yuto blinks then gives him a grateful look. The small reassurance is very welcome.]

Then let's go.

[And they set off into the ruins of the city, keeping close to the shadows and with Yuto making sure that Yuya can follow him easily enough. When they're close to the school everything seems so oddly peaceful. Yuto stops in his tracks and with a gesture of the hand attempts to stop Yuya as well. Then he starts observing, listening in. He doesn't like how quiet it's here.

And suddenly he notices something. Like a figure somewhere in the distance that hides too quickly, so he never gets a chance to determine if it's an ally or the enemy.]

Stay here for a moment.

[He hates leaving Yuya alone like this, but going any close would be too dangerous.]

[Yuya follows Yuto easily enough through the ruined city, quiet and waiting. He stops behind Yuto, keeping close but not not too close. The school is quiet in a way that sends shivers down his spine.

He keeps close to the wall, a frown on his face as he looks at Yuto. There's concern evident in his crimson eyes, and he has to prevent himself from reaching out.]

Are you sure?

[Yuya doesn't like this, doesn't like Yuto going out on his own.

But then he remembers Yuto can take care of himself and he forces himself to back down, knowing now isn't a good time to argue about this.]

...Just be careful.

I'm sure.

[He can't risk that something happens to Yuya. He turns his head to look at him.]

I'll be back soon.

[And he leaves, heading towards the school swiftly and as quietly as he can. When he gets inside the building, he's welcomed by nothing else beside more silence.

It feels wrong. He's seen someone before, so where are they?

Keeping a watchful eye on his surroundings Yuto ventures further into the corridors. And suddenly someone appears before him. And that someone is not alone.

It's a trap!

Yuto tries to get away, but there's too many of the enemies in here. They block his path and with grins on their faces, the Academia soldiers force him into a duel.

Dammit.

There's too many of them, but he has to win.]

[Yuya waits, but the longer he waits, the more antsy he begins to feel.

Almost as if something's gone wrong. It shouldn't take Yuto this long to do scouting; something must've gone wrong. So, it's that he decides to ignore Yuto's order to stay put, quickly following in the direction he remembers his counterpart going in.

He's quiet as he ventures to where Yuto is, eyes widening a bit when he sees Yuto being cornered.

Academia soliders...

They were lying in wait for them to come. No, maybe not specifically for them, but he knows that those soldiers were pleased with themselves for managing to trap one of the lead members of the Resistance. Seeing them surrounding Yuto is enough to get Yuya's blood boiling, the faintest wisps of shadows appearing around him.

But Yuto doesn't want to get him involved and Yuya knows it's going against his own desire to help his counterpart.

He grits his teeth, but he seems to have snapped when he hears one of those soldiers taunting Yuto about turning him into a card.

That's enough to get the shadows around him to explode, dark flames appearing around Yuya as his eyes turns darker. It gets the attention of the soldiers as they turn to face him. Yuya growls at them.]

Get away from him!

[Yuto scowls as his cold grey eyes swift from one Academia member to another. If they think he'll go down just because there's more of them here, then they're wrong. Yuto is a part of Resistance and Resistance never gives in.

Of course, he's at disadvantage here. But what does it matter? He has to go back to Yuya and to the others. He won't let some stupid taunts faze him. He won't cower in fear just because he's losing life points. He'll keep on fighting to the very end.

Suddenly he feels piercing pain. He grabs his shirt over his heart and then there's an explosion of darkness. Everyone in the corridor turn to look at Yuya.

Academia soldiers look shocked at first, but then they start taunting him too. They aren't afraid of the darkness around Yuya.

But Yuto knows they should be.]

Yuya! [He calls to the other, hoping that Yuya is still himself.]

[Yuya's eyes narrow, pupils black as the shadows continue to surround him in a fiery blaze.

Fools.

Eradicate them.

Erase them all.

Yuya doesn't back down when they step forward at him. The way he is now, there's no point in trying to escape. Rather, what he wants to do now is see them bleed, see them on the floor writhing in pain and begging for mercy. It doesn't take long to summon Odd-Eyes, his faithful dragon letting out a piercing screech that shakes the corridor.

The soldier's doesn't back down, but that's alright. They keep on taunting him, unaware of the consequences, but it feeds the shadows until it nearly consumes Yuya in a black pillar. It slowly begins to take on a form of some sort, but Odd-Eyes screeched again.

Yuya glared at the soldiers, daring them to attack him.]

[The soldiers attack Yuya without second thought foolishly thinking that they can defeat him, because what chances can he have when there's so many of them here? At the same time they seem to almost forget about Yuto's existence and it gives him time to run towards Yuya.]

Yuya! Yuya, snap out of it!

[He's desperate, but before he manages to get close enough, he's attacked by the enemy monster. The impact sends him crashing into the nearest wall.

Dammit.

His bones hurt and when he looks up he sees one of the Academia members standing close, grinning at him with mockery. Yuto glares in response.

He's worried about Yuya, but if doesn't do something fast, he'll be done for.]

[The crash is enough to get Yuya's attention for a split second, enough for him to realize Yuto's been hurt.

Yuto.

The shadows respond to his anger, flaring dangerously as Odd-Eyes cries out.]

How dare you hurt him.

[His tone is deeper, darker, dangerous.

His hands clenches into fists at his sides and as the soldiers attack him again, he shows no mercy. Odd-Eyes attacks relentlessly, mercilessly that it sends them all flying backwards and crashing into the wall. Those that were spared dares to approach Yuya, only for his eyes to flicker at them.

A growl erupts from him.]

Do not touch him.

[The soldiers try once more to attack, only to still in fear when the shadows surrounding Yuya takes on the shape of a demonic dragon.]

[Of course he was saved by that, but Yuto doesn't like what is happening. The Academia don't either. Those who are still standing seem to realize they have no chance and quickly start running away.

And Yuto pushes himself up, then stands in front of Yuya.]

That's enough!

[He spreads his arms to block the other's way.]

This isn't like you, Yuya! You don't duel like this!

[He can feel that accursed darkness as if it's reaching out to his own soul, but that doesn't scare him. He will bring Yuya back just like he's promised! He won't allow darkness to control the other!]

Please, listen to me!

[Because Yuya doesn't want any of this. Just like Yuto, he doesn't want to hurt anyone.]

[Yuya's tempted to send Odd-Eyes at the fleeing soldiers. They were the ones who started it, so why were they running away now?

They showed no mercy, so is he expected to show them some?

That wouldn't be fair.

But then Yuto's standing in front of him, arms stretched out as if to block him from attacking and for some reason, it sends some sort of betrayal through him. Almost like a pang, something full of disbelief because didn't Yuto want them destroyed, too?

He glowers.]

Eradicate....Eradicate them all.

[The shadows swim around him, cloaking him.

They hurt them. Academia is the one to blame, so he's struggling to understand why Yuto's preventing him from getting even with them. This is war, after all, right?

No, I don't want to hurt anyone.

The thought makes Yuya jolt, causing him to bend over, clutching his head in pain.]

[When he hears Yuya say those words, Yuto feels his blood freezing in his veins. He shakes his head, is about to say something again, but Yuya bends over, looking so much in pain.

Yuto frowns and immediately rushes closer, slowly putting his hands on Yuya's shoulders.]

You don't want to hurt anyone.

[He says calmly.]

So don't let the darkness control you. It can't make you do things you don't want to do.

[He hates it, he hates seeing Yuya in pain. But at the same time he realizes he wants to push him into his arms now and hug him close until this nightmare is over. But no, not now.]

Yuya...

[He flinches when he feels hands on his shoulders, nearly pulling away until he realizes it's Yuto.

Yuto who's been hurt, who's still here even when he could practically feel the fear between their connection. No, that's not right; why would Yuto be afraid?

Yuya grips his head harder, head ducking low until his forehead is touching Yuto's shoulder.]

Yuto...

[It hurts.

The darkness is trying to take over him, to tell him to erase everyone walking on this land. Eradicate them all - erase every human that dares to walk on this planet and get in his way.

No, that's not right. Yuya doesn't want to hurt anyone; he's never wanted to hurt anyone.

He slumps a bit against his counterpart when the darkness finally fades away.]

Yuto...

[At this point Yuto can't take this anymore. He wraps his arms around Yuya and pulls him close, his hands moving up and down the other's back. It's also obvious how worried he is about the other with how his entire body is still trembling slightly.]

Yuya...

[He doesn't want this to happen ever again. Yuya should be happy and safe, not thrown into this grim world. He shouldn't be dealing with the darkness inside his soul either.

Yuto doesn't want to lose him.

His heart trembles in his chest, when suddenly a certain thing occurs to him. And he pulls away, just a little bit to make his lips press gently and lightly against Yuya's in a chaste kiss.

It was nothing else but action on the spur of the moment, Yuya can punch him later if he wants to, but right now...]

Yuya, I... I love you so please... [Please, don't endanger yourself ever again, don't try to save him. It would be best for Yuya, if he just went back home, to his world and forgot about everything, about this war, about this world, and about Yuto.

Because Yuto failed to protect him. Even worse, Yuto fell into such a simple trap like some idiot and put Yuya in danger.

He bows his head in shame.

He's lost so many people dear to him. He can't stand the thought he could lose Yuya, too.]

[Yuya's tired, so tired, of having to fight the darkness in his soul.

Is this how Yuto and Yugo felt when the anger has passed?

He nearly clings to Yuto, fingers clutching tightly at his shirt. It's almost as if the darkness is quieter around his counterpart, just the same way it gets louder. It seems as if it's trying to call out to Yuto, but his counterpart has always been stronger than him in ways that Yuya isn't.

Just like how Yuya is stronger in ways Yuto isn't.

A grim world, a desolate city is by far a necessary place to be kissed, but it works enough that it has Yuya relaxing despite how chaste the kiss was.

I love you--

Yuya pulls back a bit, not out of the hug but enough to look at Yuto better. Seeing the expression on his counterpart's face, seeing the defeated posture he has adopted has Yuya moving again, wrapping his arms around Yuto.]

Yuto...

[He frowns a bit, better now that the darkness has retreated.

How could he ever forget Yuto and everything else? Even if Yuto didn't try to involve him, Yuya would still be jumping through dimensions to get Yuzu back, but now--How would he ever be able to let go of his counterpart?

He gently reaches up to cup Yuto's cheek, silently urging him to lift his head before he moves in to kiss him.]

[Yuya's voice makes him look up and then everything happens so fast yet so slowly at the same time. Yuya is kissing him and Yuto freezes. The other didn't push him away, that much was a surprise already, but Yuto would never imagine that Yuya would kiss him.

He closes his eyes and slowly, gently kisses back. It's a little clumsy - it's not like he has any experience in kissing - but it feels so good and warm and right. He wraps his arms tighter around Yuya.

This isn't even the right place for doing something like this. They should retreat to the hideout. Academia can come back any moment now, but Yuto forgets all about it right now.

He loves Yuya and he wants nothing more but to convey his feelings to the other.

So when the kiss ends, Yuto hugs Yuya closely and almost desperately.]

Yuya...

[He wishes to be always by Yuya's side. And he wants to forget about the reality just for a few seconds longer.]

[They both could learn this together. It's clear this is new to both of them, both of them so worn out by the war, by hopping between dimensions that it's easy to get lost in a new feeling.

But that just makes Yuya want to stay in Yuto's arms a little longer.

Just enough to escape reality for a few minutes longer and make sure what's happening now is real. He wraps his arms around Yuto, keeping him close but he hopes it'd be enough to comfort his counterpart, too.

Yuya rests their foreheads together.

He's here, Yuto.

He gives the other a smile.]

You've kept your promise. [You've pulled him out of the darkness, just like you said you would.]

[His eyes open again and Yuto shakes his head.]

No... I've failed you. Because of me you got into danger.

[Yuto was so careless, so thoughtless. How could he allow something like that to happen? He's fought this war for so long... And then he remembers where he is. He looks around and loosens his embrace.]

We can't stay here any longer.

[It won't be long until Academia comes here.

Yuto frowns and puts his hand on Yuya's cheek, then leans in to give him a quick kiss.]

We'll talk once we get to safety, alright?

[They don't have time anymore.]

[Yuya's not sure if arguing with that point would be a good idea. If he tells Yuto he's willingly placed himself in danger, he's sure his counterpart would argue with him on that.

But then he remembers where they are, especially when Yuto loosens his embrace.

Despite wanting to talk more, Yuya nods. He understands the severity of the situation and with Yuto hurt, it'd be better to get moving.]

Alright. [He's a bit placated by the kiss, enough that he doesn't try to get another one.

Yuya pulls away from him, but reaches down to grab his hand.]

Let's go then.

[Yuto nods, tightens his grip over Yuya's hand and starts leading him back to the hideout, moving fast and looking around carefully. A few nervous moments later they are far enough that they can slow down, but Yuto allows himself to let his guard down only once they're back in the Resistance hideout.

But even then Yuto doesn't let go of Yuya's hand. And he takes the other straight to his room. They need to talk and it's better if they do this in private.]

I failed today. [Yuto says once they're both in his room. He lets go of Yuya's hand and sits down on the bed, head bowed down.

It's not only about letting Yuya down, but also failing the Resistance. On the other hand, maybe it was better it was Yuto falling into that trap than anyone else from his companions.

He sighs.]
